Your own solar goes in first
Spare solar fills the battery before anything else. If the forecast says tomorrow’s sun will fill it, OptiGenTas won’t buy grid power to do the same job tonight.
Home battery optimiser · Built in Tasmania
OptiGenTas runs your home battery against the live electricity price, tomorrow’s solar forecast and the way your house actually uses power. It makes the call every few minutes, day and night, so your battery saves you as much as it can.
An example weekday on a spot-price plan, with TasNetworks Tariff 93 peak times. Illustrative figures, not a real home. Tap or hover an hour to see the decision.
The price has spiked. The battery sells what the house won’t need before tomorrow’s sun refills it, and keeps enough for the rest of the peak.
What it does
Every decision weighs the price now against the price of the power that would replace it. Your battery’s charge goes where it’s worth the most.
Spare solar fills the battery before anything else. If the forecast says tomorrow’s sun will fill it, OptiGenTas won’t buy grid power to do the same job tonight.
It tops up from the grid when power is cheap, or when the price drops below zero and you’re paid to take it. It buys only as much as the next day needs.
The battery goes into the evening peak full and runs your house through it, so you aren’t buying power at the dearest time of day.
When the price spikes, it sells what your house won’t use before the next cheap refill. It never sells power it would have to buy back at a higher price.
Rules it never breaks
These are hard limits in the software. No forecast, price or plan can override them.
How it decides
Each home gets its own plan. Two houses with the same battery can need very different things.
The live price, your battery’s charge, what your panels are making and what the house is using.
Tomorrow’s sun from the weather forecast for your address, and your home’s usual load for each hour, learned from its own history.
The cheapest way through the hours ahead: when to hold, when to charge, when to run the house and when to sell.
It sends the battery its instruction, then reads back what the battery actually did.
Every home is checked every five minutes. When something needs a person, we’re alerted.
On a spot-price plan the price changes every five minutes, so the plan does too. On a time-of-use tariff it plans around your peak and off-peak times.
What you get
The price now, your battery, your solar and today’s plan, with the reason behind each decision. It works on your phone.
When the forecast shows strong winds, thunderstorms or a severe weather warning near you, it fills the battery early in case the power goes out.
While you’re away it sells what the empty house won’t need, then has the battery full for the day you get home.
Every morning we work out what the battery saved compared with having no battery at all, and look into any day it didn’t.
